Fatburger, Elkridge

Dan's Meal: Fatburger (with egg!), Skinny Fries, Vanilla Milkshake

First of all, I can’t believe I ate at a place called FATBURGER. I mean seriously? My colleague and I always joke that we can never eat at Blimpie’s because of the name- so who came up with Fatburger to make us feel worse (Although, Potbelly had me hooked when I went to college, so maybe it’s not that big of a deal)?

However, I got over my hatred for the name because the place received rave reviews from my friends. The fact that one of their additional burger toppings is a fried egg had a lot of appeal for people.

However, because I was feeling self-conscious, I ended up choosing the Baby Fat Burger with Skinny Fries (instead of Fat fries that are thicker cut…….and let’s be honest..because they were called Skinny). I didn’t get the egg topping, which I found to be a big mistake because my burger was RIDICULOUSLY dry. It wasn’t moist at all- definitely overcooked. I understand that I chose to get a smaller burger- but if you’re not going to cook it right, don’t offer it. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I still ate the burger, but it just didn’t live up to the hype.

Dan, however, ordered a Fatburger with the egg. I tried that and it was significantly better. He also ordered the vanilla milkshake which I stole a couple of sips of- yummy! Very thick though- so prepare to share!

In the end, I probably will never drive up to Elkridge again just to get this burger- I’m going to stick to places around me that make it better.

p.s. Don’t forget to enter my Old Bay contest! It ends July 14th at 11:59PM.

STOP! I have something very important to say

I just came back from the University of Maryland Farmer’s Market and I tried some of the best ice cream EVER. It was from Kilby Cream, a dairy farm in Rising Sun, Maryland. I literally tried one spoon of the vanilla ice cream (they were giving out free samples) and I thought my world stopped from Deliciousness Overload (this is a real term). If some place can churn out amazing vanilla ice cream, then I have high hopes for all the rest of the flavors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really need you guys to try this ice cream. I feel like it’s my mission to tell everybody about it. In fact, I just ran around my office telling people that I pretty much found Ambrosia in downtown Baltimore.

Next Tuesday I’m going to buy myself a yummy cup of ice cream for $2 and all will be right in this world I am sure.

8/4/09 UPDATE: Just tried the sugar free Minty Moo Icecream (mint ice cream with chocolate chips). It was such heaven I almost cried. Why is their ice cream so amazing? They are 100% better than Haagen Dazs and Ben & Jerry's etc because their ice cream is sooooo freaking fresh!

Morton's Steakhouse Hosts a Fundraising Reception - July 15th, 2009

Want to eat some delicious steak and do some good at the same time? Then perhaps you should attend a special fundraising reception at Morton’s Steakhouse on Wednesday July 15th from 6-7:30PM. Morton’s is announcing a partnership with Feeding America, the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity, and locally, with the Maryland Food Bank, in conjunction with the release of the new "Morton's The Cookbook: 100 Steakhouse Recipes for Every Kitchen.”

The event includes a sampling of recipes from the cookbook paired with a selection of fine wine and cocktails- YUM!. It is $59 per person, inclusive of tax and gratuity, and includes a copy of "Morton's The Cookbook" and donation to the Feeding America. In honor of Baltimore Ravens Center Matt Birk's Two-Fisted Bacon Cheeseburger recipe featured in the cookbook, the first 10 guests to reserve a spot (call Morton's Baltimore at 410-547-8255)will receive a copy of "Morton's The Cookbook" signed by Birk! Super neat!

Additionally, there will be an auction with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Maryland Food Bank. Items included are a Morton's Chef Table, personal multi-course wine dinner for 6 guests; an autographed DVD of "Scream" signed by David Arquette and Courtney Cox; and a 3-liter bottle of wine provided by Chateau St Michelle. In Baltimore, guests can also bid on a three month complimentary membership and three 30 minute personal training sessions at Maryland Athletic Club's Harbor East location.

I’ve never actually eaten at Morton’s, but I have heard from many people that their food is really amazing. I love the idea that a premier steakhouse wants to give back to the community- it really warms my Social Worker heart! And let me tell you, from working in the human services field- the Maryland Food Bank is in dire need of help- so this is great!

Additionally, if you are in the Annapolis area, the Morton's Steakhouse of Annapolis is hosting a similar reception on July 14th.

Baltimore Coffee & Tea in the movies

Maybe I am totally late in this discovery, but I finally watched He's Just Not That Into You whichh is set in Baltimore. It always amuses me to see familiar scenes in the movies (I wonder how New Yorkers feel!), but nothing so much as when I saw signs for Baltimore Coffee and Tea Company. In the movie, Drew Barrymore's character buys this coffee for herself and her coworker

It made me so happy!!!! Yay!!!!! I know those familiar green cups. I love them too, Drew!

Just thought I would point this out.

2009 Diner’s Choice Award Winners for Best American Cuisine

OpenTable has announced its 2009 Diner’s Choice Award Winners for Best American Cuisine.

I'm sure you all want to know which Baltimore area restaurants made the list, right? Charleston, The Prime Rib, Volt and LJ’s and the Kat Lounge were recognized. Of course I haven't tried any of the four- but I'm sure they are spectacular and I am excited that Baltimore was honored with 4 restaurants out of 50! Apparently only New York City and its surrounding areas had more on the list!!!!

Way to go Baltimore!!!!

Are you excited about the choices? Do you agree? Disagree? Let me know your thoughts below!
