Swirl Wine Gift Certificate Giveaway!!

Do you like wine, beer and/or liquor?  Do you like winning things?  Well then get excited friends because I have an AWESOME giveaway for you!  Swirl Wine is offering one lucky TofB reader a $20 Gift Certificate to their store in Timonium!!!!

I've written about Swirl a number of times, so this is very exciting for me!  What I've always loved about Swirl, is the enthusiasm the owners (husband and wife team, Austin and James) have for teaching others about wine.  They offer wine classes, as I mention below, and they also hold wine tastings on Friday evenings.

Here are their two upcoming classes ($20 each).  I've taken Swirl 101 before with a friend of mine and not only did we learn a lot, but we had a blast!
  • Swirl 101: The Basics, Saturday, February 26th  1pm-2pm
    • Geared toward the new wine enthusiast. Popular styles, regions, and terminology will be explored.
  • Swirl 201: The Nitty Gritty, Saturday, March 12th  1-2pm
    • Each "Nitty Gritty" class will be centered around an in-depth investigation of a particular region, varietal, or style. The dynamic region of Spain will be on the agenda for this class.
So drop by Swirl, and enter my giveaway!  You can enter ONCE PER DAY!

2320 York Road, Timonium, MD

Rodenbach Grand Cru- oops that is a beer, but many people say its characteristics are like wine. We drink a bunch of Riesling at home.

@Gerry LOL.

My current favorite is Boordy's Landmark Reserve (although I may have a new fav after tonight!)... "A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Merlot grapes with rich aromas of chocolate, plum and briar fruit. The full bodied flavor is complemented by two years of French oak aging. Enjoy with ripe cheses, grilled meats and roasts." Delicious!!

One of my favorites is the Nomade Malbec (Argentina, Mendoza) - I first chose it to go with a gnocchi dish that I was making. It is truly a delicious wine for a great value!

Usually a big fan of whites, preferably Reislings, but lately have been venturing into the world of reds. My cheap go to is the Barefoot semi sweet red, yum

Another delicious wine is German Riesling Kabinett. I prefer the Kabinett designation because it usually indicates a Riesling that is a bit on the dry side. I don't like sweet wine so, when I'm in the mood for a good Riesling, this is the perfect choice!

I like a good riesling as well, and a pinot grigio. Moscatos are a little TOO sweet for me...might as well drink nectar! eschurma@gmail.com

Oh Gosh - After winery hopping all through northern Virginia this past weekend I have many new favorites! All of the wines from Naked Mountain Winery were terrific. I particularly liked the Raptor Red!

This weekend I had some Trader Joe's "two buck chuck" (actually $3 in DC) chardonnay - and I have to say it wasn't bad.

Some of the best Maryland wines come from Black Ankle Vineyards in Mount Airy. I first visited Black Ankle in 2009 and had the pleasure of meeting and being led on a tour by Ed Boyce who, along with his wife Sarah, own Black Ankle. I was very impressed with the quality and level of detail that the couple put into every aspect of their winery and of the winemaking process. My favorite of their reds continues to be their Crumbling Rock and of the whites, it is the Gruner Veltliner.

I'm not sure how many wine related things I can say! I saw a section of German wines at Trader Joe's this week and got excited!

There are many amazing Riojas to be found. I'm sort of hoping that they remain in relative obscurity so that I can continue to find some great bottles and even greater prices!
